Soon We Will Be Together My Pet...

Oh, thank the Lord! My favorite trashy TV show is back on tonight. Yes, that would be Nip/Tuck. That means quality time drooling over that hunky Julian McMahon. (Don't feel sorry for The Boyfriend. There's plenty of T&A for him too!) Big, long, lusty sigh here. How I love that man. OK, so I don't actually know him - but since when is that a requirement for a crush?

I think one reason I adore Nip/Tuck so much (besides the complete trashiness of course) is that McMahon's character, Dr. Christian Troy, feeds into my J.R. Ewing fixation. He's morally bankrupt. He has the ethics of an alley cat. He's the poster boy for why women should stay far away from men that good-looking. However, he has his moments. Just when you think he's totally unredeemable he shows that deep down, there is a fraction of his soul that is "good." He is capable of love. He is capable of being "nice." He just chooses to be dirt bag most of the time. All that, and easy on the eyes. What more could a girl ask for? Oh yeah, Larry Hagman is guest starring this season! See, it all comes full circle.

I have found a new TV show to be addicted to - Nip/Tuck.

In a nutshell it's about two plastic surgeons who are partners in their own practice. Dr. Christian Troy is the morally bankrupt one and Dr. Sean McNamara is the one trying to be ethically. There is quite a bit of gore thanks to the plastic surgery scenes (I discreetly tend to avert my eyes), plenty of messed up clients, and Sean's own disfunctional family along for the ride.

What I particularly find shocking is that my boyfriend is also enjoying the show as much as I am. Nip/Tuck is basically a primetime soap opera with more blood. While it lacks the camp factor of most shows of this genre (probably why my boyfriend likes it - since he doesn't do camp) - it's serialized. In fact, I find striking similarities between Christian and J.R. Ewing and Sean and Bobby Ewing. In fact, Seans' wife could pass as Sue-Ellen Ewing - but without those boozey over-the-top drunken scenes.

Lordy, I miss Dallas reruns. Could someone please issue it on DVD?

Anywho, I love Nip/Tuck - if only for the fact that it's filling my trashy-TV void that was created after Melrose Place went off the air.

Lest all my gentle blog readers think that I do nothing but read and mysterious librarian-things, I must assure you that I do not. I also watch TV - just not nearly as much as I used to.

I grew up on TV - I watched everything from Dallas (the greatest primetime soap ever) to Saturday morning cartoons. Remember when cartoons didn't have to be from Japan? Ah, those were the days.

Now it's all "reality" TV. Honestly, that just yanks my chain - who's reality is this? Certainly not mine. What they need to do is drop these American Idol or Are You Hot? contestants into a day care center with a pack of hungry, easily distracted toddlers with poppie diapers. The day that show makes it on the air is the day I'll start watching reality TV.

There are very few shows on my "must see" line up these days. I still watch The Simpsons - although I think the glory days passed about 3 years ago. I adore The Sopranos, but new episodes probably won't air until 2009. I occasionally try to catch King of the Hill and That 70s Show - but don't set my clock to them.

So what do I set my clock to? South Park. That's it. Can I just say how much I adore this show? My big reason for liking South Park as much as I do is because the creators aren't afraid to offend anyone and everyone. Heck - I've been offended, but I'm too busy laughing my ya-yas off to hold a grudge.

My wacky digestive issues reared their ugly heads last night - so I spent the evening camped out in my overstuffed chair with a heating pad and the Oscar telecast. All I have to say is what man didn't want to be Adrien Brody last night? That lip-lock with Halle Berry stands out in my mind as pretty memorable - more so than Michael Moore's rant - like who didn't see that coming a mile away?

As for Brody's win - I have yet to see The Pianist, mainly because the city where I live lacks any sort of art house movie theater. Hopefully now that it's won a couple of Oscars one of the mainstream theaters will deem it worthy enough for some screen time. Otherwise I'll just have to wait for the DVD.

Personally, I thought Brody was underappreciated for his work in Summer of Sam - an underappreciated film all the way around. Sure it's not Spike Lee's best (how does one top Malcolm X?) - but it's an interesting character study. I do recommend it, and it's got a pretty good soundtrack besides.
