For those of you who were here for this reminder post last month, why yes this blog is STILL a Dead Zone. Y'all, The Day Job has just been a lot. For those that don't know, I oversee a Technical Services division. In layman's terms, I oversee the process start to finish of getting "stuff" on a library's physical and digital shelves for all y'all to check out. I also oversee the budget related to that process and with a fiscal year that ended on June 30, I've been neck deep in closing out those books and getting the budget allocated for the incoming year. A lot of librarians are exhausted this time of year because of Summer Reading. Me? I'm exhausted by logistics and math. And at the end of the day all this brain exhaustion means reading is next to impossible. It's Law & Order reruns and crushing candies on my phone.
This was another suggestion that came out of my annual theme poll and there's a lot of different ways you can spin this one. Some suggestions to get you started include: a main character "escaping" something (suffocating family, a bad relationship, a terrible job....) or a story set during a period of change (pick any war, Women's Suffrage, the Civil Rights Movement etc.).
That said, I can totally relate to the fragile state of reading mojo - and sometimes you just have to go with the book calling your name in the hopes of finding something to lose yourself in for a few hours. If you just want to pick a random book out of your pile and call it good? That's OK! The goal of the Challenge is to read something, anything, that has been languishing.
It's never too late to sign up for the Challenge. You can learn more about it, and see a list of who is participating, over at the #TBRChallenge 2026 information page.

oh heavens goodness me, how is it mid July already ::hides in a corner::
