I love it when you guys e-mail me cool stuff. I makes blogging a lot easier. This round of linkage love starts off with the Facebook campaign to get Ben & Jerry's to develop a library-themed ice cream flavor. The reasoning being:(1) Libraries are awesome;So what will it be Ben and Jerry? Chocolate Chip Bookie Dough? Gooey Decimal System? Or Chexy Librarian?
(2) Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream is tasty
Therefore....
(3) A library-themed Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream would be tasty awesome.

The librarian awesomeness continues thanks to AnimeJune who was recently looking up (what else?) anime titles when she came across Toshokan Sensou. Roughly translated? Library Wars.In a daring decision, it was decided to create a new government agency dedicated solely to information management. Some thirty years later, in 2019, the government still monitors and controls information, suppressing anything they find undesirable, but standing against their abuses of power are the libraries, with their special agents called ‘the book soldiers.Warrior librarians? As some of you might have noticed, I did a lot of editorializing this past week. One of these soapbox episodes (guess which one?) generated a very nice e-mail from Rebecca, who happens to have her own web site called Dirty Sexy Books. And holy crap, there looks like there's tons of stuff over there. The title alone demands that you go and check it out. Just sayin'.

Library War is also a light novel series, two manga adaptations, and a couple internet radio shows, in additon to being an anime. So far, I've only seen three episodes of the show, but these librarians are expected to be able to handle various types of weaponry and memorize the library's shelving system. Also, they defend people's right to read what they want with guns. I don't think I'd make a very effective librarian in that world - I'd probably faint.
I say Gooey Decimal System has possibilities...gooey, yummy, caramel-y possibilities. :-D

I think there should be an ice cream flavor with Red Hots in them that has some name to do with library fines. I'm not good with names.
I wouldn't be able to eat it myself. I believe Red Hots are cinnimon and I'm allergic to cinnimon. But still - burning hot candy and library fines seem to work together.

Wendy --> I love Gooey Decimal System, but as for Library Wars - I checked the Anime News Network, and it looks like the show hasn't been licensed yet, which means an American company hasn't bought the rights and officially released a subtitled and/or dubbed version.
Doubtless, however, someone's fansubbed it (meaning, they've imported or burned a Japanese copy of episodes, written their own English subtitles for it) and put it on the internet for download. Piracy and downloading are a big factor in the anime watching of people in North America, which is why I haven't really watched all that much anime in a while (I rent it or buy it).
Unfortunately, Library War isn't actually available legally in the US yet (or maybe ever - it's not always easy to tell what will become licensed). What I've watched of it has been fansubbed - I saw it on Youtube. I figure, if I end up liking something, I can always buy it once/if it gets licensed and distributed in the US. It's possible people are selling Library War fansubs on Ebay, but I definitely don't condone buying those.
As for the manga, light novels, etc., I haven't tried to track those down.
So, no, none of this will be available in English via WorldCat. Welcome to the wonderful world of anime fandom.
Thank you AnimeJune and Library Girl for that info. We're disappointed about Library Wars, but we seem to find a steady supply of legal anime so we're not hurting :-)
How about for every book you take out of the library, you get a coupon for a free Ben and Jerry's cone?
