- You must buy their new book on the laydown date.
- You must try not to get pulled over for speeding on your way home.
- You must drop everything and start reading said book the moment you close your front door.
The new book, The Mephisto Clublands on September 12 people. This is great news right?
WRONG!
The Parents are visiting September 9-17!!! ARGHHHH!!!!
Now, I love my parents. Adore them in fact. And since my mother hates to fly (she really does), I figure the least I can do while they visit me some 3000 miles away from home is to not drag them into bookstores and read in their presence. After all, I only see them a couple times a year.
What's a girl to do? I guess I could order it online, but then I'd have to wait for the dang mailman to show up. That's no good. Maybe I can sneak off to Borders, run in real quick and buy it. Or better yet, manufacture a Costco run. I'm sure they'll be carrying it. That way I can pet The Mephisto Club and stare longingly at it until the parental units head home on the 16th.
Seriously, do you think petting books is a sign of mental illness? Attachment issues? The result of some traumatic moment in my childhood?
Nah, it just means I'm a dork. But you all suspected as much didn't you?

There is nothing wrong with any of those suggestions! I have been known to go on my lunch break to pick up books so that I can get straight home to where I can read in peace faster. I also once had a minor freakout because a business trip was going to occur the same week a book (from a series no less) was due out. But it turned out (through some web searching) the hotel we were staying out was across the street from a Borders. Whoo - all better.
Nah, it's not mental illness, I do it too ;) Wait, maybe that means we're both really really ill lol.
Get the BF to pick it up for you.
A risky proposition, if you are anything like me and have to study the cover and spine for damage before buying the book.
But sometimes you just have to do it!
try to pre-order it... maybe you'll be lucky and it'll come a week or a few days in advance. in that case, not only you won't have to go out and buy it, you'll probably have finished it before your parents arrive.
Sounds normal to me!! Good luck. Maybe you can sneak some peaks just before lights out. That's what I try to do.
I see nothing wrong with any of this. So yes it must be mental illness and we all have it.
;)
Book petting? How can it be wrong, when it feels so right?
