Best Movie Of The Summer. Period.

So The Boyfriend took me to see Batman Begins yesterday.

Oh My God. Loved it! Can't say enough good about it! Squeeee, I'm morphing into crazy fangirl mode over here.

I've always been drawn to Batman as a character for various reasons. He's a superhero with no superpowers. As Bruce Wayne he's emotionally stunted, and as Batman he's an anti-hero. He is a vigilante. Period.

Also, the villains are just plain cool (outside of the Penguin, who just sucks). By and large, like Batman, they have no superpowers. And that is what was so great about Batman Begins - great villains. The Scarecrow has always been one of my favorites, because he messes with your mind. Sorry, nothing is creepier than that.

Speaking of The Scarecrow - check out the total hottie they got to play Dr. Crane. Hubba, hubba. His name is Cillian Murphy - and he's Irish.

My palms are starting to sweat over here.

It about drove me nuts trying to "place him," so I looked it up when I got home. He had a very small part in Cold Mountain. He was one the soldiers who showed up at Natalie Portman's house while Jude Law was there.

Proceed to drool.

He's better known over here for his roles in GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING, 28 DAYS LATER and DISCO PIGS.

He's also frequently confused with fellow Irish actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. :D

Maili:
Never heard of Disco Pigs (assuming it's a British film?), but do know of the other two. Admittedly both films that I'm unlikely to ever watch unless the boyfriend stops on them when they show up on HBO :-)

But man, what a hottie!

Murphy played the consolation prize in "Girl with a Pearl Earring" when the heroine couldn't have Vermeer -- but second place has rarely looked so good. You really should rent the movie; I liked it even though I can't stand Scarlett Johanssen.

DISCO PIGS is an Irish film, actually. :D It's quite a peculiar film about a teenaged boy and girl who grew up very close - they were born at same time in same hospital and live next door to each other - living in a world of their own. Their world is threatened when someone decides to separate the "twins" and as the result, their world does change, but not in a way anyone may expect.

One could describe it as a love story. :> It's worth seeing, IMO.
