Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Beau Brummell Can Suck It

Oh look, a new post from yours truly over at Heroes & Heartbreakers!  I suspect my editor over there was ready to send out a search party.  Or else a mass of angry villagers carrying torches and pitchforks....

Anywho....

Today's topic du jour is all about my mad lurve for Harlequin Historical.  Go on over and take a gander!

I just have one question. Something that was never covered in history class when I was a kid.

Who the heck was Beau Brummell?

Jami: He was a friend of the Prince Regent's. Using a 21st century comparison - he was "famous for being famous" and sort of like the 19th century version of Mr. Blackwell. He was a trend-setter, and fashionista - dictating how men dressed in those days (the tailored clothes, the full-length trousers, the cravat....).

Of course he was also a wee bit of a gambler, and ran off to France in order to avoid debtor's prison. Which is where he remained until his death.

So more of a "social history" figure than anything else. Ugh, which begs the question - in a couple hundred years will people remember the Kardashian sisters?! ARGH!
