"Do longer TV commercials increase reading time? USA Today reported that Fox Sports cameras spotted Stephen King reading The Ghost by Robert Harris between innings during the Red Sox-Indians playoff game Friday at Fenway Park. "King told reporter Chris Myers on-air that he 'could read 18 pages between innings normally. But now that Fox is doing the games, I can read 27 pages between commercial breaks.' Not a bad idea for home viewers."Ain't that the truth? Not only does Fox have the longest commercial breaks in the western world, they also believe in airing said commercials about 500 decibels louder than the actual program you're watching. Thank God for the mute button.

I always read during commercial breaks. And don't even get me started on the way the volume skyrockets when they come on. When the time comes around for me to get a new tv, the first criteria is one with that feature where the sound evens out so that doesn't happen.
I know I usually don't fast-forward during commercials using Tivo because I read during that time. One reason I never buy it when people say they have no time to read, yet have plenty of time to watch tv.
I always read during commercials ~ and sometimes after them as well :D
I'm with you on that! I have to mute during commercials too (when I'm not watching TiVo that is) sometimes not even for reading but because it's so loud I'm afraid it will kill my speakers. USA and TNT have a big problem with it.
I was waiting for the freshman football game to start but got there about an hour early. I knew I was going to be really early so I grabbed a YA novel from the school library. The students couldn't believe I was reading in the stands before the game! They also couldn't believe I finished the book in an hour - I kept saying, "Um, guys, it was barely 200 pages...and don't you read when you have nothing to do? Why not read instead of staring into space..." I got no reply there - so it makes me fear for the future - my kids would rather sit with their finger in their nose than read a book! Sigh.
Since a book goes with me everywhere I could see reading at a ball game while waiting. I've read just about everywhere else I go. During commercials? But of course!
Lil Sis...read? When they could be texting, talking on their cell phones or taking pictures of themselves? You must surely be an optimist.
