Rolled around and wallowed in it :) But readers - we're wacky about our reading moods, aren't we? And this is definitely a story to be savored, taken time with, and it helped (for me) that I read it slowly and really digested the story the author was portraying for me.

It's early in the year still, but I think this one will more than likely make my Best of 2016 list - just because that's how memorable I found it and how well done the history aspect was.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12485867264936716806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-350052669699480502.post-29313803507183436352016-01-27T19:05:46.206-08:002016-01-27T19:05:46.206-08:00I definitely want to give Huguley a try someday wh...I definitely want to give Huguley a try someday when I am in the mood for something a little heavier. My current workload is making me look for only light-hearted and sweet so it may be awhile. As long as I don't feel like the author is pushing beliefs, I don't might religion especially in historicals where it feels natural. Thanks for the fabulously helpful review!Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03717325098424976925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-350052669699480502.post-4645711721800710942016-01-26T13:38:07.420-08:002016-01-26T13:38:07.420-08:00Cleo: I get in moods like that too - where all I w...Cleo: I get in moods like that too - where all I want is cotton candy fluff. Rom/com style stories with meet-cutes and little misunderstandings. This isn't that book :) But it is very good, so definitely check it out when your mood swings back around.

Kate: I am LOVING Be Buried in Rain. I discovered work had it on audio, I know the narrator by reputation (Barbara Rosenblat for you audiobook nerds) and all I recalled from my reading it years ago that it was one of hers I really liked. Work also has Someone in the House and Black Rainbow on audio. Those will probably be next.

Keira: I think you'll really like this one. The author does such a wonderful job with the history and world-building.

Kate: Yippee!

Carole: I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the series - I'm just giving myself a break between reads. Ruby was good, but emotionally draining.

Nath: I get annoyed sometimes that secular historical romance completely glosses over church/religion. About the only time I see it is in westerns - and even then only those westerns that are set in semi-established towns (usually a church was the first thing built).

Susan: I have the Juneteenth anthology, but it's still in my TBR. After I read your comment I thought, "Well maybe she just recycled the name Arlo." Then I read an excerpt. Nope. Sure seems like the same Arlo. Although the Arlo we hear about in this book was working at the mill and there is no mention of a wife, children etc. So I'm not sure.... We don't actually see/meet him in Ruby's book. He's already dead.

If it's any comfort (probably not...) - the author doesn't detail the lynching. It happened before the start of the book and there are no flashback scenes etc.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12485867264936716806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-350052669699480502.post-57930143961112407382016-01-26T12:56:17.150-08:002016-01-26T12:56:17.150-08:00Uncle Arlo gets lynched? It seems Ms Huguley did a good job at portraying the era right and yes, that would mean including church.nathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02626894830238717124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-350052669699480502.post-32088736015763573622016-01-26T08:50:31.931-08:002016-01-26T08:50:31.931-08:00Thanks for sharing!! Another vote in favor of real books!

How are you enjoying Be Buried in the Rain? I used to inhale her books back in the 90s, but now the "girl gets house" genre tends to infuriate me :) Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08787848462710742004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-350052669699480502.post-53508500800971527412016-01-25T18:57:51.071-08:002016-01-25T18:57:51.071-08:00Piper Hughley has been on my radar for awhile but ...Piper Hughley has been on my radar for awhile but I haven't pulled the trigger yet because while I'm not always or only a fluffy, lollipop type reader, that's about all I've been interested in lately.
