Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Giveaway: RWA Tote Bag + Historical Romances

Here's a giveaway so nice, I'm doing it twice!  Once again the prize will include an RWA 2012 tote bag and a box of books - this time it's a random selection of historical romances from various publishers.

For your chance to win, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post, answering this question:
You've been invited to a fabulous dinner party and you will be sitting next to one historical figure of your choosing (famous or not famous - but they must be dead).  Who would you want that one person to be?
There will be two (yes, TWO!) lucky winners on this giveaway, and the contest is open to both US and international residents.  Winners will be chosen at random and announced on Friday, November 2.

Good luck!

(Oh, and don't worry about your dinner companion being a zombie and dining on your brains.  The very definition of a "fabulous dinner party" is No Zombies Allowed, and your mysterious host has a way of reanimating dead historical figures without any of those pesky zombie side-effects)

I'd sit next to Marie Antoinette, since it appears that she knew how to throw a party. :)

Oh gosh! Decisions, decisions. I'd have to say Cleopatra. We saw a large exhibit at a museum recently and it was very very interesting.

That's a toughie. I think I'd like to talk to Richard III of England.

I'm currently reading Team of Rivals, so I'll go with Lincoln. That may change depending on the next book I pick up.

I would love to sit beside either William Marshall or Eleanor of Aquitaine (or both).

After all of those Regencies I've read, I think I'd like to meet Wellington.

I'd love to sit beside William Shakespeare -- so that I can find out who the real one was.

Thanks for the great giveaway!

Marie Curie. And still hoping for your Tigers - maybe they'll pull off the Never Done Before. It could happen.

I'd like to sit beside Maximilien de Robespierre. I know he's controversial, but I also think he's fascinating and had some great ideas before he lost it.

I'd like to sit next to Jane Austen. She might be fun.

There's a few I would like to sit with, but right now I'd have to say Isaac Brock. Lol. He's being mentioned every timeI turn around these days. He was a major general on theCanadian side of the War of 1812.

Ah! So hard to choose! It's a tie between Glenn Miller, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Sammy Davis Jr. Can't I just have a party with them all?

Any historical figure from any period?

Gah, too many choices!

I have long been intrigued by Artemisia Gentileschi, an Italian Baroque painter. I would love to talk with her about both her life and her art.

Or, my maternal grandfather, who was born on the last years of the XIX Century and lived through the Mexican Revolution (pretty much literally)

This one was easy - I'd love to sit next to Thomas Jefferson at one of his dinner parties at Monticello.

Don't enter me, since I won last time. I would really love to sit next to Dodie Smith and ask her questions about her books. Like, what did she think happened after the end of I Capture the Castle.

Not really past historical time-period, but Diana Wynne Jones. I always wanted to meet her, but alas, if only in fiction. :D

Or my granny. I sure miss her.

Maybe it's because I am from Philly, and we love our home town heroes, but I've always thought Benjamin Franklin would make a facinating dinner companion.

I would like to sit down beside of my ancestor John Allen McDilda and ask him if he really moved from Tennessee to West Virginia to escape being charged as a horse thief and murderer -- and could he please, please, please tell me what his wife's first and maiden name was. And, while I was at it, I would ask him who his parents were and where overseas did they come from!!!!

I'd love to have dinner with my Dad again. He died far too young and I still miss him.

I'd love to have dinner with Laura Ingalls Wilder. Thank you for another wonderful giveaway.

My first thought was Emily Dickinson, but she didn't go to dinner parties and would likely be super uncomfortable. So let's pick a partier. Oscar Wilde!

I would like to sit next to Agatha Christie and ask her questions about her books and the mysteries surrounding her life. But I also would like to sit next to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and ask him for more insights about Sherlock, whose many reincarnations in TV, books or film never fail to fascinate me.

I have a few but I will choose just one. Freddie Mercury. I think he would be fun and maybe if the dinner party was lucky he would sing us a song. :D
