Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Giveaway: RWA Tote Bag Plus Home & Hearth Harlequin Style!

Given the sheer force of the bookgasm that I experienced thanks to this year's RWA Conference, I've decided to do the unthinkable.  Something so rare for the Bat Cave that frankly I can count on one hand the number of times it has happened in the almost 10 years this blog has existed.

That's right kiddies - brace yourselves....

Wendy is going to be hosting a series of giveaways for the next several months!

And this is how much I love all of my followers - besides a cornucopia of books, I'll be giving away several of the RWA conference tote bags this year.  Yes, giving them away - instead of selling them to the highest bidder, which honestly given the amount of offers I've had, I could technically do.

The first giveaway is going to be for one awesome-sauce tote bag and a whole horde of category romance from Harlequin in what I call their "home and hearth" lines.  Harlequin American, Harlequin SuperRomance, Harlequin Special Edition, Harlequin Romance and Harlequin Heartwarming are all represented in this Mountain Of Somewhat Mystery Books.

To enter all you need to do is leave a comment on this blog post telling me what romance author (dead or alive) you would love to spend a day with.

The winner will be announced on Monday, August 20.

This contest is open to US residents only.  Yeah, I know - that sucks.  Blame it on the heavy box.  I promise that some of the future giveaways WILL be open to international folks.

OMG I would love to win this! Probably Victoria Dahl. Her twitter feed is awesome.

Great giveaway!

I think I'd go with Jennifer Crusie. I think she's brilliant and snarky and perfect.

Did Lemon Drop approve this giveaway?

I don't need more for my TBR. But I'm entering anyway, lol. It's probably no surprise that I'd like to meet Mary Balogh. Her books started me reading romance again.

I love it!! I'm clearing my shelves, as well, so stop by starting tomorrow ;)

I'd love to spend the day with Susan Mallery... & her goats!

Wow, my top two choices already taken! I think Jennifer Crusie just barely beats out Victoria Dahl, as I'd love to talk about writing and teaching and old farm houses with my fellow Ohioan. Victoria seems like a riot, though, and I'd probably spend all of our time together as some sort of neurotic writing valet, trying to maximize her time writing so I can get more delicious books ("Can I get you a drink? No no, don't get from the keyboard, let me get that for you. Whatever you need.")

Jennifer Crusie. Or Georgette Heyer. I'd really like a look at all of Heyer's research notes, man.

I would love to meet Jayne Ann Krentz.

Regards, Ruth (CO)

Do I have to pick just one? Mary Balogh is my go-to author for Regency romances. I lose myself in her historical world, and having tea with her (I'll bring the crumpets!) would be awesome. And JR Ward would be the other author - picking her brain and figuring out how something as complex and utterly amazing as her Black Dagger Brotherhood can fit inside her head is something I might need more than one day to do. But I'd take one for the team and do my best!

I would love to talk with Roberta Gellis. She is the one who hooked me into romanance all those years ago with the Roselynde chronicles. One Harlequin author that I enjoyed (old school) was Nerina Hillard. Does any one know what happened to her?

Like a couple of others, I'd love to hang out with Jennifer Crusie. She got me back into romance after a looong break because we have similar senses of humor. I'd like to thank her for bringing me back to romance and then just snark with her about stuff.

Hi! Not usually a blog follower, but love your attitude and could not pass this up. Romance author I'd love to spend a day with -- Cheryl Reavis. Love her moves between Navajo and military stories, and her ability to redeem seemingly irredeemable characters (which I need to do in my next story). Plus she seems to be a really interesting lady. (BTW will be off line August 20-23 -- writers' retreat in rustic cabin on Lake Superior.)

Jayne Ann Krentz, Jayne Castle, Amanda Quick. Three in one without counting her other
noms de plume.
Love "home and hearth" books.
Thank you.

oooer.....Right now, it's Tessa Dare. I want to know where she came up with the idea of a misfit town for plucky heroines

Hi Wendy - really good question, but now that I've thought about it, I would have to say ... Jane Austin.

Well, I don't think Gail Carriger is really romance, but I would love to spend more time with her. I've talked to her a bit at Lit. Orange and online. I think it would be awesome to go to Comic Con with her. Me dressed in my TARDIS costume. Her dressed the way she always does - fabulously.

Barring that. A day with Jennifer Cruise would be cool too. So long as I could bring Minnie with me since dogs figure so much in her books. I think a day with Minnie would inspire her to write an entire series about Minnie The Moocher - The Matchmaking Pooch.

I have read that Jodi Thomas is exceptionally generous in teaching the creative process to others and I'd love a day to learn research techniques from her.

Bri said...

Nora Roberts. She has written such a variety of stories and settings, under to names that it is quite amazing. I would love to get to see how her mind works!

Julie said...

Kresley Cole, for sure. Especially with an open bar! She just seems so fun and zany and super creative.

Kate K said...

I'm going to have to go with two hilarious writers with that quiet wit I so adore: Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen.

Jill B said...

I would pick Jennifer Crusie, hands down. That woman is hilarious!

I would love to spend a day with Ms. Lorelei James. I have been glomming her Rough Riders series and enjoying every single book.

azteclady said...

I'm torn: Nalini Singh (and I promise I would get a few answers out of her at the end of the day) or Nora Roberts (and I would just let her talk about whatever she wanted).

*crossing fingers and begging all listening deities*

(yes, I'm not above begging--I want an RWA tote! (and the books, obviously, too))

Tracy S said...

Jill Shalvis. Her "I Love Lucy" adventures on her blog crack me up on a regular basis!

Dee said...

Wow. That's a tough one. There are so many great authors both of romance and of other genres with strong romantic elements (who do great romance in other storylines). Right now my top picks would be Sarah Mayberry because she's funny and good at writing contemporary, emotionally twisted up characters and Carla Kelly because she does such wonderful, sweet, charming historicals where the characters just grow into their love. Though Jennifer Cruisie would also be on my list...

nath said...

Awaiting the international giveaways LOL. BUt I'll play along...

I see a lot of people wrote Jennifer Crusie... I wish too, but Anne Stuart would have to be along :) Nalini Singh is another author and Elizabeth Vaughan and Nora Roberts :)

LibraryMaven said...

Lord do we have to choose just one--I'm imagining a long weekend somewhere with a bevy of different authors depending on my (and their) moods at the time--maybe an island off the coast near Seattle with walks along the shore, gatherings around the fireplace at night with drinks, rainy days on a big porch and lots of laughs around the kitchen table. But for a start I'd like to meet Marforie M. Lui (and her cute dog)

Kristin said...

I would pick Karen Rose. Her books are so suspenseful and I would love to know how she comes up with her ideas.

Carly M. said...

Definitely Julia Quinn. If she can banter like her characters it would be so entertaining!

Nikki said...

Linda Howard must be my choice.

Becky said...

I would want to hang out with either Julia Quinn or Jennifer Cruise. Susan Elizabeth Phillips would be the author that I would love to have on call as an agony aunt, though.

Maureen said...

too many authors to meet but I would love to meet up with Maureen Child because I enjoy reading her Harlequin books which are so fun. & I can just see what our conversation would be like... I really enjoy your books Maureen. Well thank you Maureen how nice of you...

Kim in Baltimore said...

I'd love to spend the day with Harlequin authors Geri Krotow (Navy vet) and Cindy Dees (AF vet). I want to know about their past, present, and future!

Andrea2 said...

I would love to spend a day with Judith Duncan. Many of the other authors I really like have websites and are active in the romance community, so I learn more about them through those avenues. Judith Duncan doesn't seem to have a website and is most likely retired. I'd really just like an opportunity to tell her how much I've enjoyed all her books (and still do - they are keepers and I re-read them often.)

Micky L. said...

I would love to get inside Nalini Singh's head--I wonder what it is like to have all the amazing characters that she has created just floating around and talking to her one on one. It would be like getting the "inside scoop"

Sandi S. said...

I skimmed these comments and think how blessed I am to live where I do because I've had the chance to meet many of the authors listed. I've not gotten to spend a long time with some, but I've had dinner with others. Lucky Lucky me.

I would have to go with a deceased author...Beverly Barton. I love her gritty romantic suspense, and understand she was one charming southern lady.

Good luck to all who have entered!

Kelly in Hockeytown said...

I'd have to go with Nora Roberts. I'd probably get to go to her Inn in Maryland and I would love to know how she does all that she does.
