Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Favorite Super Bowl Ad

No, nowhere near the obvious choice that I'm sure everyone else is going to be picking (although yes, I liked it too....).  My personal pick is so beautifully shot that I'm wondering who Chrysler hired to direct the commercial.  Plus, I'm from Michigan.  Not from Detroit, but dang, after I saw this spot I almost jumped up off the sofa and started chanting "U.S.A! U.S.A!"  Hell, the only thing missing here?  A shot of Comerica Park....which is actually right across the street from the Fox Theater

It made my sentimental heart go all squishy.  Oh, and that bit about being "written by folks who've never even been here?"  What he said.

No, I agree- definitely one of my favorites. *Even though* it's all yay M*ch*g*n! ;P
<3 Think it's cuz it's all Eminem and I really do love Lose Yourself.

I too loved this commercial. This one my absolute favorite even though I'm not really an Eminem fan.

My other favorites was the Pepsi Max commercial with the couple and she hits a girl in the head by accident after her husband checks out the other woman.

And the next fav was the little darth vadar in the VW commercial. Too cute!

I agree absolutely. It was visually gorgeous and emotionally gripping. Well done, Chrysler.

I also liked the same ones Booklover1335 did. And the House promo spoofing Mean Joe Greene had me giggling.

And hey! The game was fun, too. My nephew is a HUGE Packers fan (he grew up in Saudi Arabia, so I'm not at all sure how that happened). I was happy for his sake.

I only watched parts of the game so didn't catch all the commercials. I didn't see this one but I like it - it certainly gives you a feel for the city.

When I think of Detroit the 2 images that come to mind are cold & smoke stacks. So the commercial worked to make it more "city" like for me.

This was a very strong ad. FWIW the guy at Slate also thought it was the best of the night. His quote: "An ugly missed field goal set up the night's best ad, one so strong I don't even mind that it was paid for with my taxpayer dollars."

(He also loved the VW ad with the wannabe Vader.)

Anna: I thought the ads got better as the game wore on....

Lime: Just really well shot. Good to see the city....warts and all ;)

Booklover: I think the reason the Darth Vader worked so well is because...well...what little boy hasn't wished he could use the force? ;)

Phyl: I don't even watch House, and I too loved that spot! I also really liked the Camaro ad were the hot redhead ends up being a schoolteacher.

Leslie: I thought they did a good job of shooting the city. Now if they'd only included the ballpark.....

LoriK: After it aired I looked over at My Man and said, "I don't care if it is a little cheesey - I frickin' loved that ad!" LOL

The voice-over made that the commercial for me. I loved his raspy voice. Plus, the tagline at the end, very memorable. Definitely the best ad.

I wonder if Kid Rock will also be doing an ad. Wasn't he trying to revive Detroit via MoTown?

Year after year when it comes to the Superbowl, we get robbed of the adds unless we have a satelite (which I don't) Instead the @^@^*&^@! Canadian Channels take over the channel and year after year run the most terrible adds. It drives me ever lovin' nuts I tell you. But I was listening to the radio on the way home and the DJ's were talking about some of the adds - one had satelite - and this was his favourite too. Having grown up only an hour away from Detroit, I've always felt it was my American city of choice so I was glad to see you posted this.
And I have to say - they guy on the radio and you are right! This really is a great add.

My favorite Stupor Bowl ads were the ones with Faith Hill and Joan Rivers.

Vivi: Yeah, I think it was the tagline that pushed me over the top. It's clever. Really clever.

Becky: Kid Rock reminds me so much of Bob Seger in a lot of ways. Especially now that he's doing the rock/country thing.....

KristieJ: Dude, that sucks! I haven't been all that impressed with the ads the last few years, but I thought this year was quite strong. Hit YouTube girl!

Goddess: OK, now I need to hit YouTube and dig those up....because I think I missed them while I was making dinner :(

That Detroit commercial was so very powerful. I think I teared up a bit at the absolute pride for the city that came through. Beautiful.

I think the car commercials blew away every other product advertised. Between that one, the Chevy one with the truck doing a sort of Lassie impression ("I didn't even know we had a volcano in this town!") and the VW mini Darth Vader ad, I'm ready to buy a new car right now.

Cathy: I agree, there were a lot of great car commercials this year! That truck one was great, and I also liked the Camaro commercial with the hot school teacher :)

Indeed ; ) The voice-over guys were a hoot.
