Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Weekend To-Do List

My Man had to travel back East for a family funeral, so the Bat Cave is flying solo this weekend. And in his absence I have several dorky-girlie-only-Wendy-would-do-that type things on my to-do list.
  • Catch up on my DVR. I'm now three episodes behind on Rizzoli and Isles. So far? I like it as a TV show, but need to keep it "separate" from my love of the books/series. Some things are ripped directly from the books, while other things are spun from whole Hollywood cloth or altered completely. Despite that, I rather liked the first two episodes, and frankly, I flat-out like Angie Harmon. Just do.
  • Read
  • Do something with all those books I kept from my RWA trip. The 40-some I didn't keep for myself have already been dealt with (taken to cataloging at work, mailed off to friends etc.) but I still have a box sitting on my home office floor.
  • Weed the TBR. It needs to be done. Again. It's not so bad really. Like ripping off a band-aid.
  • Decide between tequila or whiskey while watching my Tigers play the White Sox this weekend. Hell, maybe I should just go with both.

  • Hit some thrift stores with Lil' Sis and Lemon Drop.
  • Read
  • Try to not eat frozen pizza and bad Chinese food every night while My Man is away. Seriously, I have the sophisticated palate of an 19-year-old college frat boy.
  • Download the September Harlequin releases I wanna get.
  • The usual cleaning, laundry, drudgery, etc. etc. etc.
  • Read

So... are you planning on any reading for the weekend?

Thanks for starting our weekend with a funny post! I have not read Tess Gerritsen's novels (although she is a founding member of the RWA Aloha Chapter). But I was eager to like this series. Having liked Angie Harmon from Law and Order and Sasha Alexander from NCIS, I've had to "adjust" to their different parts but enjoy the show.

And my entire family may be eating frozen pizza or bad Chinese as we are overcommitted with volunteer projects this weekend, including the Friends of the Library book sale. But it will be fun as I give away bookmarks from RWA!

Victoria: And I have Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes on DVD. Seriously! Must! Resist!

ZOMG - lurve Animaniacs

AL: I am SO behind in my reading. I mean, really really really behind.

Kim: I unloaded some of my bookmarks on to friends and work - but I still have a ton. I can't say no to bookmarks and always come home with more than I'll ever use myself in one lifetime.

I'm kind of liking Rizzoli and Isles, actually. Not a whole lot else on now, with the exception of Super Sunday (True Blood, Mad Men, Hung, Entourage, a few other things that are escaping me 'cause they're all DVR'd). Agree on Angie Harmon. Never liked her much before. But like her on this. Also like Isles, but not as much. Liked her better on NCIS. But like Ziva better than Kate. Not that I liked Kate getting a bullet in the head or anything, but still.
Getting sort of hooked on Scoundrels. Somewhat of a rip off of the cable show The Riches with Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard, which as I understand it, ripped something else off...but it's fluffier. And I've always liked Virginia Madsen. But what the heck is up with the hairdo on the former JAG guy? It looks like Frankenstein's flattop!

Speaking of Rizzoli and Isles, I just finished my first Gerritsen, The Surgeon, which I picked up after your reviews of her books. I absolutely loved it. Great plot, but more important than that, great characters. I just had a quick look at your older posts and was pleased to see the one about Ice Cold, where you say she's really good at developing the recurring characters throughout the series. Sounds like this is a series to follow! :)

Taryn: I watch so few TV shows anymore, it's always nice to stumble across one that I do like. Caught up with Rizzoli & Isles this weekend - and I'm sticking with it. So far I'm finding it nice and solid.

Kristie: Didn't get nearly as much reading done this weekend as I wanted to! Spent most of my free time cleaning out the TBR. It had to be done - but man what a time suck!

Rosario: You're in for a treat! You've got some great reads ahead of you (particularly books #3 and #4).

Lil' Sis: And watch Lemon Drop smile :)

Hilcia: My Tigers ended up taking 2 out of 3 from the White Sox - and only because the White Sox bullpen was determined to lose game #3. So I was able to lay off the alcohol this weekend.
