Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

I'll Take Potpourri For $200 Alex

I still seem to be flailing about looking for solid ground (and routine) after my parents' visit. So in the hopes of getting back to my normal, boring, self, we have a potpourri blog post!

First, isn't that picture just the cutest thing you've ever seen? That's my niece reading Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Sometimes I forget that she's 7 and reading "big kid" books now. Gah, how time flies! I'm not sure when I woke up and got old - but it's a little disconcerting to say the least.

My own reading took a serious nose-dive with the visit of the Super Librarian parents, and yesterday I think I kicked my ass in gear by finally finishing The Diamonds Of Welbourne Manor anthology. Oh, and look! The review has already been posted over TGTBTU.

I've still got several May Harlequins to read. Sigh. I really like to get them read, reviewed and posted the month they come out - but it can't be helped this go around. Look at this way. If something sounds good, you can always order them online even if they've vanished from brick and mortar stores.

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. My Man and I finally made a dent in our movie watching. We saw Wolverine and Angels & Demons. I was really expecting Wolverine to be horrible, and while it is certainly cheesy, I found it a watchable popcorn movie. I also liked how they tied it into the previously released X-men movies.

I had no huge desire to see Angels & Demons, but My Man wanted to see it, so we went. Frankly, the only reason The Da Vinci Code was made into a movie was because the book sold a bazillion-jillion copies. No sane person would read that book and think, "Wow this would make a great movie!" But I ended up pleasantly surprised by Angels & Demons. For one thing, I think the story is better than The Da Vinci Code. For another? We've got Ewan McGregor. OK, so it's more than a little dirty that he plays a priest and all I could think about was getting under his robes - but still Ewan McGregor. Hell, he's the only reason that the Star Wars prequels were even remotely watchable. Is it wrong to have naughty fantasies about Obi-Wan Kenobi? Yummers!

My final verdict on both movies is that you can wait for DVD. They were both decent ways to blow through an afternoon, but nothing so spectacular that you'll be missing out on much if you decide to wait.

Still....Ewan McGregor. ::drool::

Re: Wrongness caused by the Ewan McGregor love---you are not alone.

For example, my entire review of the first Star Wars prequel was "Way too much Jar Jar Binks, not nearly enough Ewan McGregor." Having wicked thoughts about Obi-Wan Kenobi was sort of wrong, but that just didn't matter.

I want to get under Ewan's robes too honey so you're definitely not the only one! lol

Your niece is adorable!

Your niece is a cutie! I want to see Angels and Demons. It was supposed to happen this weekend, but I HIGHLY doubt it. My hubby has a bit of a cold and claims this is it, he's biting the big one...sigh. Men.

Ewan looks down on me every day I'm in the office. :Sigh: And yes, he's what made A&D for me. I went to see it with my parents, especially as we had gone to see DC together, and I thought it was worth the $6. But then, I have a really hard time paying more than matinee prices for any movie.

Your niece is adorable. But I must correct you on one thing. While children get older, we don't really. We may gain life experience and intelligence but we don't really age while doing it.
Neither of the two movies you saw appeal to me that much and I'll be just as content to wait for the DVD's. I've only seen the first X-Men movie and haven't seen The Da Vinci Code.
But
I just go home from seeing the new Star Trek movie and that one I can definitely recommend!
And I think there are many of who would join you under Ewan's robes!

I figured I wasn't alone when it came to Ewan McGregor. That guy seriously flips my switch.

LOL - I like your theory on how we don't age Kristie! I'm filing that one away for future use.

And yeah, Star Trek is on our list of movies we need to see. That and the new Terminator. Hopefully this weekend.

I echo Kristie(J). I LUVVVED the new Star Trek movie. The young Spock is definitely cutely stuffy if that makes sense. Interesting twist on the expected plot and lots of bits of things for fans to see. Look/listen for the Tribble on the ice planet.

Your niece is so cute. Glad you were surprised by Angels and Demons. I likes that book so much better than the Di Vinci code. So I hope to see the movie.

I agree - Angels and Demons was the better book but I probably will wait to see the movie on DVD. I do want to see Wolverine still..haven't done that.

See Star Trek! Oz's double is Spock! :) Oh, and Oz and I both enjoyed Terminator. I will say there is cheese in both Trek and Term but it's minimal and near the end. And of course you have to have a bit of cheese with your action. :)

Don't you just love seeing kids reading with such joy?

A&D was definitely a better book.

And holy cow! If the priests in my childhood church had looked like Ewan McGregor I might still be a catholic.

LOL Cathy! I'm not Catholic, but I might have converted had the local priest looked like Ewan when I was growing up!
