Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

I Guess It's Better Than Ocho Cinco

The Boyfriend: Do you still call me "The Boyfriend" on your blog?

Me: Yeah.

The Boyfriend: I need a new name. "The Boyfriend" is boring.

Me: Look, you knew when you fell in love with me that I wasn't original or creative.

The Boyfriend: Yeah, but we've been together 10 years Wendy. I deserve a better name. I mean, haven't I gone "beyond" mere boyfriend status.

Me: OK, what do you suggest? I can't call you my partner. People will think we're gay.

The Boyfriend: Something "man." How about My Man?

Me: I can't call you The Man?! Cuz ya know, that would be bad. You'd be The Man.

The Boyfriend: No, not The Man. My Man. Yeah, My Man is way better.

Me: Ok fine. You're now My Man. Happy?

The Boyfriend: Yes.

Me: Geez.

Librarian footnote of the day: For those of you who don't understand the Ocho Cinco reference, here you go.

Hee, now he sounds like your butler/major domo/valet. "I say, old sod, were I you, I would speak with my man about the shine on m'Hessians."

Um... how about SO (Significant Other)? Or LTBF (long time boy friend)? Or PBF (permanent boy friend)? Or PHS (permanent house guest... bwhahaha)? Or MiML (man in my life)? How about RLB (real life B.O.B.)? Or just call him by a fictitious nickname like Bob, or Dewey (hee, more librarian humor) or SuperBF, or whatever?

I'm no help am I?

BWHAHAHAHA

Dewey would be FANTASTIC! But alas, he'd never go for it. Bother, he's just going to have to be My Man. Still unimaginative as heck, but more manly than "boy"friend.

Kati said...

Wendy, you could call him "Mr. Big" (said in breathy voice like Marilyn Monroe).

LOL!

nath said...

So, when we talk about him, we're going to refer to him as Your Man? LOL :)

I have a friend who uses Manpanion...I bet you could use that as well. LOL

My Man. for some reason I keep hearing JJ Walker "My Man! Dy-no-mite!" (probably showing my age a little there...)

Awww - I think it's cute that he wants a title of distinction. Ok, maybe not distinction but after 10 years he thought he should be moved up. Very cute.

OMG MK - I love Mr Big! lol That's great.

Well, if he thinks The Boyfriend is a boring name, why is he not doing what it takes to be known as The Fiance or The Husband? Not that it's any of my business, of course.

Wendy said...

Anon:
You're right. It's not any of your business.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Anonymous. Why not fiance or husband. You have been together 10 YEARS!!!! When I was reading your blog that is where I thought he was going with wanting to be moved up from boyfriend.

Kristie (J) said...

LOL - he's funny. How about My Man Toy?

Wendy said...

Anon2: Mom, is that you?

sybil said...

am I the only one that was expecting hubby at the end of that...

hey it is one way to get a new name *g*

sybil said...

oh how sad just me and your mom...

LOL does your mom even read your blog? I told mine to stay away from it when she yelled at about it once. err tgtbtu not yours whatev I just confused myself

Wendy said...

Sybil: Actually, my mom does occasionally read my blog - although I know for a fact that neither Anon is her. Like you, mama has the cajones to leave her name.

Also, my family (yes, even my parents) is totally cool with My Man and I shacking up without benefit of a marriage license. It tends to only be total strangers who don't know me from Adam who ask me "why aren't you married yet?!?!" Geez.

sybil said...

dude I am too vain to not use my name ;)

I didn't see the comments before I was a smartass but wow you have anon's. R they scared of your librarian superness?

Wendy said...

Sybil: Maybe they got bored posting anonymously over at Dear Author or the Smart Bitches?

I feel special though. It only took me five years of blogging to get my very own anons! Go Team Wendy!

*snickering*

Oh dear... you've arrived, Wendy ;-)

But on the matter of names... perhaps you should call him "perfect gift giver for all occasions" instead. I mean, he really is good.

Would "Boy Wonder" be too predictable?

JamiSings said...

He might go for Dewey if he reads Unshelved - http://www.unshelved.com/

Or go for comic book super hero names. I'm a Marvel girl myself - just adore Remy Le Beau aka Gambit.

This just cracked me up. The BF is perfectly reasonable and at least we all know who that is. Some of your many fans MIGHT miss this post and then think the BF got the boot.

Oh and Ocho Cinco? Trust you to have a handy sports reference when you need one.

mdvelazquez said...

The first thought I had was "Mr. Big Stuff. Who do you think you are?" LOL

CindyS said...

Anon2: Mom, is that you?

LOL!

I love that he wanted a new name and My Man is very, uhm, yummy ;)

So you get the 'when you guys going to get married?' while we get 'when are you guys going to have kids?' Okay, no one asks that one anymore because most people know we can't but man, talk about wanting to choke people. And I guess when I look old that question will stop ;)

Did you know that in most social situations the second question people ask you is if you have any kids? Yeah. Talk about hitting ice with a thunk when you say no. It's kind of funny now to watch a persons' face while they struggle to find new footing. Bad Cindy for just sitting back and watching them flail. I should start throwing out life rings.

Ooops, I just highjacked your blog with my ranting.

sybil said...

could go with man of mystery

lol

cindys how did you answer or did you have a set you pulled out depending on your mood ;)

I used to always say don't want them and people would be all oh you are still young you will one day. I HATE that...

Wendy said...

So I suggested Boy Wonder to My Man. His response? "See the Pandora's Box you opened?" I'm taking that as a no :-) Thanks for the laugh though BookNerd!

Rosie: Maybe I should call him My Man: The Artist Formally Known As The Boyfriend?

Cindy: Here's the thing - there's ALWAYS a question. It goes from "When are you getting married?" to "When are you having kids?" to "When are you having another kid?" And just when you think you're safe? That the questions have stopped? They start asking you questions about the kids! "How's Johnny doing in school?" "What's his major?" "Is he seeing someone?" "Is he getting married?" "When is he starting a family?"

ARGHHHH!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the fabu name suggestions everybody! There are some really great ones here. I'm thinking I might give The Boyfriend a revolving door of names from now on. Hey if Chad Johnson can now be known as Chad Ocho Cinco, The Boyfriend can go by My Man, The Man Of Mystery, and SuperBF. Just sayin'.

sybil said...

Just go with Super Librarian's boy toy ;)

Alyssa said...

LOL! That's awesome. I'm sure he's proud his status took a step up.

azteclady said...

Oooooooooooh...

"SuperLibrarian's Boy Toy"

I bow to sybil--that's just perfect!

Damn Wendy! Yeah, I don't see mom doing that...anyways she wouldn't know how to leave a comment. You know our mother she still can't work a VCR! :)

You've got trolls...sorry I missed this yesterday - I read your post too early I guess. I miss all the action. :(

Wendy said...

Lil' Sis: Yeah, but it means I'm now cool enough to have my very own trolls! I've arrived! It only took 5 years of blogging!

Ha - and so true about Mom. But give the gal some credit. She figured out e-mail pretty well....

CindyS said...

Sybil - just said we couldn't have them - had one person tell me if I really wanted kids I would have a kid. Bob had to get me off her ;) Kidding.

I now tell people kids smell weird and are messy.

Now I have the opposite problem. People with kids trying to 'save' me from their kids. 'Does Cindy like kids?' is the question Bob gets. Uh, why isn't the question 'Bob, you like kids?'

It's like having a plague - oh, don't go near Cindy. Course my Godkids know I'm all fine but it's funny to see other people with kids giving me the wide berth. It's kind of freeing - no one asks me to babysit and trust me, been there, done it and I decided that only people with kids should have to be asked to look after other people's kids. Just saying ;)

Now I look at people with kids and think they are crazy. I prefer my self-centered ways ;)

Wendy - I never thought about the rest of the questions - could you imagine? Have you enrolled your 3 month old into school yet? Blergh.
