Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Football Widow

For those of you who don't live with a sports obsessed man, let me enlighten you to the fact that this weekend is the NFL Draft. For The Boyfriend, this is basically like a bar mitzvah, Christmas morning, and finding a forgotten $20 bill in a jacket pocket all rolled into one.

To put it into further perspective, the NFL draft to him is like me finding out about a used bookstore going out of business sale, or finding that hard-to-find, out-of-print book at the UBS where the owner is only selling it for $2 because they have no idea how much money they could make off of it on eBay.

Yeah, it's like that.

I'll be able to count on a couple of things this weekend. 1) He's going to want some sort of snack-like item for meals. I foresee the demand for nachos and/or tacos. And 2) A lot of uninterrupted "alone time" for Wendy where he's not yelling from the other room, "Hey whatcha doing?" every 15 minutes.

The plan is to do the usual drudgery that marks my weekend (hello, laundry! hello, toilet brush!), maybe a bookstore run, and I really, really want to get some reading done. Seriously. I'm about ready to tear my fingernails out if I don't get more than one hour of uninterrupted reading time. My TBR pile, and a special project I'm working on, are screaming at me at a couple thousand decibels.

So, anyone else going to be a football widow this weekend? If so, any exciting plans?

Crap! Is that THIS weekend? Well, I guess the honey-do list will be collecting dust. And he'll have the phone plastered to his ear so that him and his buddy in CA can have a minute-by-minute discussion.

My DH isn't THAT much of sports fan, so I'm spared in regard to the draft. He is, however, out of town this weekend. In fact, he hasn't been home for longer than five days since some time in March. I'm a work widow, not a football widow. Either way, like bev(qb) the honey-do list is dusty and half of our new kitchen cabinets are in boxes in the living room.

Sorry to be the bearer of rotten news Bev! Trust me though, it's definitely this weekend. The Boyfriend has been counting down the days since the Super Bowl.

Cathy: Ugh, I'd be going insane looking at those boxes. The only room I can abide clutter in is the home office, and even then I tend to get itchy once it hits the "out of control" stage.

I hate this time of the year. My hubby is an avid sports fan and I can't get him to budge on the weekends. Add to that we're remodeling our baths. Do you know how many decisions have to be made--light fixtures need to match bath and sink faucets which have to be picked out before you order the counter top (else how many holes to cut where), etc. etc. Between football, baseball, playoffs of all kinds, I never see the front of his face, just the back of his silhouetted by the TV screen.

I like that my husband is glued to the TV. That means I can be glued to the book I am reading and I don't have to feel guilty for not spending every minute with him!
