Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Judith McNaught Still Hates Librarians

Yes, she still hates me. The publication date for Can't Take My Eyes Off of You has been pushed back. Again. For those of you keeping score at home:

1) November 27, 2007

2) April 29, 2008

and now....

3) December 30, 2008

I still have copies on order from when I was an idiot and ordered this one month in advance back in October 2007. Dumb Wendy. Really dumb.

And yes authors, I know that sometimes real life bites you in the ass and you can't meet your deadlines. But it shouldn't be habitual. That tends to annoy. Well, at least it tends to annoy me. Imagine how peeved off I would be if I was a McNaught fangirl. For those of you who are, sorry to rain on your Valentine's Day parade, but I had to vent my annoyance.

That sucks!

At least this book hasn't disappeared yet, like Patience.

Was this the original book where the heroine goes back in time that was supposed to come out years ago??
I so confused!!

I am over Patience. I have no Patience. Ha ha I so funny.

Katiebabs: No. The book you're thinking of is Water's Edge - which was part time travel, part mystery. McNaught eventually "split" the book and the mystery turned into Someone To Watch Over Me. The time travel aspect was totally scrapped and has yet to resurface in another book (as far as I know). There is no book titled Water's Edge floating around. The title changed when she "split" the book. I've had to explain this so many times to librarians and patrons I can practically recite it in my sleep.

Here's the description I found for Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You. Not very imaginative, but it's the best I could do:

"Years after falling in love, getting married, and getting divorced in their youth, a complex, charismatic man and a successful, determined woman are given a second chance at rediscovering that love and rebuilding their relationship."

Re: Patience - my librarian sources still have it listed as a May 2008 release.

I liked Passion, but I only "liked" it. It didn't leave me wringing my hands in anticipation for the follow-up. If Patience had appeared in a timely manner, I probably would have read it - but now? Having only "liked" the first book, coupled with the constant delays - it's doubtful I'll rush out to get my hands on a copy....

Can't Take My Eyes Off of You sounds like a re-hash of every romance I have read in the past.
Wasn't Patience supposed to come out May of 2007 also? What is the deal with this book? I mean Passion had it's moment. Oh yes, I love having hard hot sex in museums behind a screen where anyone can hear me, but Valdez's train has left the depot. I can't understand the hold up and there are so many rumors about what went down. If Patience does come out in May it better have the secret to the holy grail in it!!
Sorry, Wendy I tend to rant at certain moments. *blush*

I was sooo disappointed when I saw this. I kept wishing that the website had it wrong, since amazon was still putting April 2008 as the release date... but I guess now it's official :(

Oh man, I remember all the delays with Water's Edge. That really was frustrating. I'd really enjoyed a lot of her previous releases - but delays like that are so frustrating. I'll wait once, maybe twice - but it then kills my interest, and something that would have been an autobuy turns into a maybe buy, most probably borrow/UBS purchase.

And if that's a pattern for an author - well, I'd rather they'd not set a release date until they actually know that the book will be in bookstores by that date.

I used to be a Judith McNaught fan, but now I'd rather reread a few old favorites and look for new authors than put up with these constant delays....

shhhhh wendy! Darest not speak of such things.

Hasn't her last two been later or am I mixing her up?

It will be amazingly cool to see Patience in May but I find it hard to believe a book could be turned in three months before release and be ready. And that would be if it was even turned in by then.

::shrug:: you never know...

Sybil: Ha! I get less traffic than you do. And yeah, McNaught is notorious for not meeting her deadlines. I'm just bitter because I didn't follow my gut instinct and order this book one week prior to the release date for work. Instead I ordered it a month in advance and it's mucking up the works in our acquisitions department (those are the folks that actually purchase the books once I choose the titles).

Patience is still listed as May, but I highly doubt it as well. I'm going to have to try and remember to check back periodically to see what it gets pushed back to this next go around....
