Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

Who Doesn't Love Gimmicks?

If you head over to my Library Thing account you'll see my TBR in it's entirety. Yes, I own all those books. No, I haven't read any of them yet.

I need serious help.

So in an effort to delude myself, I'm instituting something I'm calling The Harlequin Reading Challenge. I, Wendy The Super Librarian, will read nothing but books published by Harlequin until I leave for my Thanksgiving travel plans on November 17. That's four weeks on the button.

Any book published by Harlequin is fit for the challenge. That means all the category and single title lines. Will I read a Mira romantic suspense? An HQN contemporary? A Harlequin Historical western? Or simply gorge myself on Harlequin SuperRomances? Time, and my fickle reading mood, will tell.

Good for you! You should be able to find something to suit every possible reading mood, I'm thinking. :o)

Also, I'm a dork because I totally first read your headline as "Who doesn't love limericks?" Duh. *hangs head in embarassment*

Good luck with your challenge! I checked out your tbr ~ wow, you've got quite a pile. I think you probably win the "who has the largest TBR pile" award.

C2: That's kind of why I did it. I figured that Harlequin publishes everything, so the chances of me getting bored are pretty slim.

And I love limericks, but can't write them worth a damn. About all I can handle is haiku.

Dev: I know several people whose libraries run well over 1000 books. The difference being they've actually read some of theirs :-)

I have read some of mine!

I'm curious is the challenge restricting yourself to just the Harlequin line before Nov17 or are you planning on knocking over the couple of hundred you have before then? I sort of picked up on the devourer of books mentality you normally seem to have so although it averages out to about 7 a day...? Nah surely not.

Catherine: Ha! No, the Challenge is just a way for me to stay focused. There is no way (short of me quitting my full-time job and becoming a hermit) that I would read through my entire Harlequin collection by Nov. 17.

I originally wanted to say "only Harlequins until the end of the year," but I promised my older sister that I would read Lonesome Dove over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lonesome Dove?

Is that punishment?

Sybil:
My sister assures me I'll love it. We're blood related, so I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. And I've mentioned to a few coworkers I'm going to read it and they've all gushed, "Oh you'll love it!" So there's hope. That, and it's 950 frickin' pages long which means I'll only have to take one book with me when I travel for Thanksgiving.

WHAT? one book? WHAT? You might not like it! And then you would be ::gasp:: booklesss

tres horror

LOL! My sister seems to think I'll finish this book in a week (yeah right!) and then I'll be book-less. I'm not worried. I read the first few pages, so I know the writing style will work for me and I can't imagine I'll have much reading time outside of the airplane. It's Thanksgiving after all, so I'll be preoccupied with family stuff....
