Amazon discontinued the ability to create images using their SiteStripe feature and in their infinite wisdom broke all previously created images on 12/31/23. Many blogs used this feature, including this one. Expect my archives to be a hot mess of broken book cover images until I can slowly comb through 20 years of archives to make corrections.

And Gosh Darn It - People Like Me!

Today started out fairly crappy. I got an angry letter from a library patron. A library patron who suggested I don't know how to do my job.

OK.

I'll fully admit I'm a bitch. But when I'm at work, it's a different story. I'm Librarian Wendy. Bitchy Wendy stays locked in the trunk of my car while I'm in the office. And despite the various hassles of this job (the bureaucratic nonsense, supervising a staff, and having no money to provide services my patrons want/need), I think I'm pretty damn good at it.

Instead I get an angry letter from a patron who doesn't even frequent my library - just uses the book drop. And she doesn't call me or have her regular library call me with her problems/concerns. Nope. Just sends a 2 page letter detailing how my library isn't doing it's job.

So I took an extra long lunch break today. I went to Barnes and Noble. I got my Arby's fix. Now all I need is that bottle of Corona waiting for me at home and my mellowing process is complete.

i always say that my branch is so much better before we let people in for the day.
i once had a volunteer, who hadn't bothered to come in for her shift in 4 months and never returned a phone call send me a 2 page letter complaining because we were having a volunteer appreciation party.

Shayera, that's too funny. That is exactly happened at a charity I used to work for. And what made it worse is she actually tried to invoice us for the postage cost of her complaint letter. H

Well if it's cold where you live, might I suggest you do what I used to do with negative letters? Use them to help start the fire in the fireplace ... LOL.

Shayera - Amen sister!

Maili - It would be just my luck that this woman would ask for a receipt so she could right off the postage on her taxes next year....

Jill - Alas, I'm in lovely Southern California. But maybe I'll save the letter for the next time I go home to visit Michigan....

are you sure you don't want to go out to that car, pop the trunk, retrieve that bitch and THEN answer these letters? Honestly.

Kate:
No the bitch should probably stay in the trunk of the car :) A girl needs to be able to pay rent and eat after all.

And my boss is handling this particular angry letter - so for the time being I can stop worrying about it....
